Signs Your Water Heater Needs Maintenance

Usually a water heater will provide some signs to indicate that you might need to make some repairs. Keeping the unit properly maintained is important to ensure that it runs well. You will also save money in the end simply by having an idea of warning signs to become aware of that indicate a possible problem. Usually issues with a water heater are small, however small issues can turn into bigger ones if they are neglected.

There are some signs to become aware of that will tell you if there may be problems with your water heater. One is if the water flowing from the faucet is rusty or cloudy. When running the hot water and this occurs, there could be sediment which has accumulated in the tank. Sometimes this will happen with an older model water heater. Another sign to be aware of is if it takes more time for the hot water to become hot when it runs for more than one minute. This may mean that the top component of the water heater may require replacement.

More signs that indicate a problem are if the water becomes hot but does not remain hot. If this happens it could mean the bottom component may need to be replaced. It could also mean that the heater may have become plugged up and may need service. When you run the water and hear banging noises this also could indicate a possible clog. If you notice a nasty smell or one similar to rotten eggs while water runs, it could mean an anode rod has been damaged.

Leaks are also big indicators that your water heater may need repairs. If you notice an amount of water on the floor below the water tank it could mean there is a leak. If there is a leak someplace on the tank, you will notice water running down the side of the hot water heater. If you notice water on the floor, it could cause mold to accumulate on the nearby walls or the floors near the tank. As you can see it is important to make those repairs.
